Sibutramine is a medication that was previously used as a supplement for weight loss. It works by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine, thereby increasing their levels in the brain and inducing a feeling of satiety, which can reduce food intake and promote weight loss. However, due to concerns over potential cardiovascular side effects, including increased risk of heart attack and stroke, sibutramine was withdrawn from the market in many countries. It is no longer widely recommended or prescribed for weight loss management.
